After my third miscarriage, my aunt sent us a food basket. Living several hundred miles away, her note read, “I wish I could fly out and be with you right now.” My therapist found an opening in her schedule that week. My step-dad sent cards. My mom picked up the misoprostol from the pharmacy for me. The phlebotomist checking my hCG levels put her hand over her heart and said, “I’m so sorry.”
