Crucial Resources After a Pregnancy Loss
I sometimes feel like a broken record, but I’ll say it again, and again, and again. There simply are NOT enough resources for us after a pregnancy loss. I had to scour the internet, bookstores, and social media to find anything after my own losses. This wasn’t an easy task - and I continue this search.
Here are some much needed resources for all of this after a pregnancy loss:
Psychotherapy
Postpartum Support International directory: This is a thorough list of therapists who are credentialed through PSI. These are clinicians who are trained specifically in perinatal mental health, including pregnancy loss.
International Find-a-TFMR-Therapist directory: If you’ve terminated for medical reasons, there is a directory of therapists specifically for you.
Essential Reading
All the Love: Healing Your Heart After Pregnancy Loss, by Kim Hooper, Meredith Resnick, and Huong Diep.
Part memoir, part therapy session, this book covers just about any questions you have after a pregnancy loss. It covers the emotions we might experience, the physical pain and experience, how to cope with how others treat you after a loss, and it even covers the financial strain of a pregnancy loss. This is a must-read!
About What Was Lost: Twenty Writers on Miscarriage, Healing, and Hope, edited by Jessica Berger Gross.
This anthology of essays and short stories feature twenty pregnancy loss experiences. The stories focus on grief, trauma, and living through sadness and hope.
What God is Honored Here?: Writings on Miscarriage and Infant Loss by and for Native Women and Women of Color, edited by Shannon Gibney and Kao Kalia Yang.
This book is a collection of stories and experiences of native women and women of color who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss. It explores how these experiences disproportionately impact women of color, and the intersection of loss and marginalization. This is a powerful book!
