For those of you who don’t know, I’m writing a book for clinicians to work with people after a pregnancy loss. When I had my own loss, I found it infuriatingly impossible to find a therapist who understood how to work with me. One therapist looked at me strangely, confused why I was crying on her couch after losing a pregnancy at 8-weeks: “You know it’s quite common, right?” Another therapist jumped into “fix-it” mode, immediately throwing skills at me to help me cope with the loss. I remember she didn’t even say sorry for my loss.
Clinical education barely touches the surface of pregnancy loss. And my hope in writing this book is to change that, even in a small way.
