The approaching New Year has always been a time of reflection for me. It’s a time where I assess my own needs, my family’s needs, and what we need to change as we move into a New Year.

I don’t make New Years Resolutions (and have been mindful of how having a child has been explored as a goal for the New Year). Rather, I set intentions. This year, I intend to continue building The Miscarriage Therapist in a mindful way, supporting people’s needs in this community. I want to build a stronger community of loss parents who can come together in these struggling times.

Finding supportive help after a pregnancy loss is hard. But, I hope this space is one where we can be that support that sadly doesn’t exist in many spaces outside of The Miscarriage Therapist (a few exceptions, of course, are listed on our website, under resources).

In 2024, The Miscarriage Therapist will move almost exclusively to Substack. Podcast previews will still be available on all podcast platforms, but full podcasts will be available here. Paid subscribers will have access to podcasts without ads.

We will also continue to hold monthly Zoom meetups. These meetups, open to paid subscribers, will be a time for us to come together in support. Support groups are a great way to heal, but typically, they are a drop-in service. Therefore, you might meet a round of new people every time to attend. My hope in having these monthly support groups is that all of us will connect, see friendly faces, and maybe even make some friends.

Finally, I’m going to start utilizing the chat feature more often! I think it’s really helpful for casual conversations, quick posts, and an effective way for all of you to connect directly.

And now, I’m going to ask you all the same thing! What do you need in 2024? What needs are not being met?

One way I like to answer these questions is through journaling. One of the clinicians at The Miscarriage Therapist, Fiona Smith, shared her process on journaling and writing as a healing modality:
